Born and raised in Uganda, Harriet saw first-hand the effects of poverty and the subordination of women. These experiences molded her into becoming the entrepreneurial humanitarian she is today.
Harriet works directly with 11 east African (Uganda + Kenya) artisans who employ hundreds of craftsmen and women to translate designs into handcrafted one-of-a-kind items. The talented woman and men are responsible for supporting their entire families using their talents that have been handed down from one generation to another.
Harriet donates a part of the sales of her products to Lend a Hand Uganda - USA, an organization focused on improving the lives of Ugandan children and their communities.
We fell in love with Harriet's products because each product has a soul when you hold it in your hand. You feel the craftsmanship and pride in every piece. We love how our followers hold something from Harkiss Design and see its beauty and value. We are privilege to have the opportunity to represent the artist through Harriet and her wonderful company.
These beautiful olive wood spoons with Masai beads are hand-carved and beaded by artisans in Africa. We love the beauty of each item having its own individual feel and made by an artisan who wholly supports their family by their craft.
